Lower High Cholesterol

Too much cholesterol?

In daily life, we do not notice that you have a high cholesterol level, yet it is important to reduce this high cholesterol.

High cholesterol is not good for our vascular system and can bring all sorts of unwanted consequences. Of course, we don't want to resort to medication straight away.

So how can we lower our high cholesterol?

Recover-Me's special formula maximises the production of nitric oxide in your blood vessels.

Nitric oxide keeps the various lipids in the circulatory system in balance, helping to keep good and bad cholesterol at healthy levels.

Over time plaque can narrow the arteries and reduce blood flow. Once this plaque is build up under the endothelial cells of your arteries this plaque is stuck there forever.

  • A common place where plaque is build up is in the coronary arteries, which are the blood-vessels that feed your heart. This plaque build-up causes coronary artery disease and increases your risk of a heart-attack.
  • Plaque build-up in other arteries such as the carotid arteries in your neck can reduce blood flow to your brain and increase the risk of a stroke.

Nitric oxide and cholesterol.

Cholesterol is a fat like substance made by your liver and also comes from food you eat and is then packaged into particles called lipoproteins. Your body needs cholesterol to make:

  • Hormones.
  • Vitamin D
  • Bile, a substance that helps you to digest food.

Two lipoproteins that carry cholesterol are:

  1. Low Density Lipoprotein or LDL carries cholesterol from the liver to the cells. LDL travels through your bloodstream delivering cholesterol to the cells that need it.
  2. High-Density Lipoprotein or HDL carries cholesterol from the cells to the liver.

Bad life style habits (alcohol, cigarette etc ) causes damages to the artery walls and LDL will get in to repair the wall. Once LDL has gotten into the arteries, more LDL get’s in and sponge cell formation occurs, also called plaque. That is why LDL is called ‘bad’ cholesterol.

Increased HDL helps your body prevent this build up of sponge cells from occurring in the first place.  HDL helps remove excess cholesterol from your cell tissue and from plaque in your blood vessels. This is why HDL is called the good cholesterol. HDL returns the excess cholesterol to your liver, which removes it from your body.

Nitric Oxide helps to maintain a good balance between the good cholesterol and the bad cholesterol.

Recover-Me boosts the production of this Nitric Oxide.

Cholesterol's function

For more insight into a high cholesterol level in the body, it is important to understand the function of cholesterol. Cholesterol is both good and bad for the body. At normal levels it is an essential substance for the body. However, when concentrations in the blood become too high, it becomes a ‘silent’ danger that puts people at risk for a heart attack.

Cholesterol is present in every cell of the body and has important natural functions when it comes to digesting food, producing hormones and generating vitamin D. The body produces it, but people also get it through their diet. It is waxy and fatty in appearance. Cholesterol is therefore a fat-based substance. It does not mix with the blood, which is water-based. It travels through the body in so-called lipoproteins.

LDL and HDL cholesterol - what is good cholesterol?

When people talk about cholesterol, the terms LDL and HDL are often used.  Both are lipoproteins, compounds of fat and protein that are responsible for carrying cholesterol in the blood throughout the body.

LDL is a low-density lipoproteinoften referred to as "bad" cholesterol. LDL is known as the "bad" cholesterol because too much of it can lead to hardening of the arteries. LDL leads to a build-up of plaque on the inner side of your arteries. When this plaque accumulates, it can cause several problems.

  • First, it can narrow the arteries, restricting the flow of oxygenated blood throughout the body.
  • Secondly, it can lead to blood clots, which can break loose and block the flow of blood. This is exactly what could cause a heart attack or stroke.

2. HDL is a high-density lipoprotein, also called the "good" cholesterol. HDL  something quite different. The body needs this substance in large quantities to function properly.

HDL helps to keep your cardiovascular system healthy by removing the LDL from the arteries. It carries the bad cholesterol back to the liver, where it is broken down and excreted from the body.

A high level of HDL has been shown to protect against stroke and heart attack, whereas low HDL significantly increases these risks. To protect the body, it is therefore crucial to have a good amount of HDL. This reduces the amount of LDL in the body.

Lowering your high cholesterol with Recover Me

If you suffer from a high cholesterol, it is wise to take action as soon as possible. You don't want to run a high risk of cardiovascular disease. One of the most effective things you can do is to give the product Recover Me a chance.

Recover-Me's unique formula ensures that arginine is absorbed into the body. It is the amino acid L-Arginine that initiates the production of nitric oxide.  Nitric oxide regulates cholesterol by lowering serum and LDL cholesterol levels. This has the effect of increasing the amount of "good" cholesterol in the body. As you have already read, more "good" cholesterol reduces the amount of bad cholesterol. And that is exactly what you want!

Dr J. L. Ignarro on nitric oxide and cholesterol.

Dr J. L. Ignarro explains: "One of the most common causes of a heart attack or a stroke is the development of arteriosclerosis which is nothing more then an inflammatory disease of the arteries and this comes about when you have cholesterol build up, in other words the ‘bad’ cholesterol.

This LDL cholesterol build up will actually cause a change in the structure of the arteries, the blood will begin to clod, there will be all kinds of derby clinging to one another and this constitutes the build up of plaque in the arterial wall which can obstruct blood de opbouw van plaque in de slagaderwand die de bloedstroom kan belemmeren.

Worse yet, if those plaques become disruptive, for any reason, they can travel to different parts of the body and travel to the brain you can have a stroke and if it travels to the heart you can have a heart attack.

The way the body protects naturally against the development of high cholesterol is through nitric oxide. Nitric oxide functions to keep the balance of the various lipids in the arterial system, so it helps to maintain the good cholesterol and the bad cholesterol at healthy levels."

In this video, Dr. Ignarro clearly explains how nitric oxide affects our cholesterol levels.

Useful tips to lower your cholesterol

Besides taking Recover Me, there are a number of other tips we can give you for reducing the bad amount of cholesterol in the body:

Eat healthy food – A few changes in your diet can lower cholesterol levels and improve heart health. For example, you can reduce the amount of saturated fats you consume.

Saturated fats, mainly found in red meat and full-fat dairy products, increase your total cholesterol in the body. Reducing your consumption of saturated fats can lower LDL cholesterol levels.

Exercise a little more -  Exercise (sport) can improve cholesterol levels. Go running, swimming and do some strength training! A lot of exercise raises the HDL cholesterol (the good cholesterol) in the body.

Exercise for at least half an hour every day to reap the health benefits. Apart from improving cholesterol levels, exercise will also make your heart healthier.

Lose excess weight - - Do you have some excess weight, especially belly fat? Fat around the abdomen increases cholesterol levels. Several studies show that losing five to ten percent of your weight will lower your cholesterol and also reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease.

Having even a few extra pounds contributes to high cholesterol. Small changes really count in reducing cholesterol.

If you drink sugary drinks, switch to tap water. Keep an eye on your calories. If you crave something sweet, try to grab something low in sugars.

Lower cholesterol by ensuring that your vascular system produces more nitric oxide.

The signal wonder molecule nitric oxide helps regulate cholesterol by lowering LDL cholesterol levels.

 Lower cholesterol by not smoking.

Reduce cholesterol - by consuming less sugar.  Sugar only makes the body produce the bad LDL cholesterol. Therefore limit artificial and quick sugars as much as possible. The latter can be found in for instance white bread and white rice. You do not have to exclude sugar completely, but make sure they consist of slow carbohydrates as much as possible, found in, for instance, oatmeal, brown rice and vegetables.

Lower cholesterol by sleeping well.

  • Arteriosclerosis or high cholesterol levels can lead to plaque deposition and plaque formation in the blood vessels. If plaque continues to grow, it can obstruct the blood flow. Nitric oxide is our natural way of literally protecting ourselves from cardiovascular disease.
Prevent Arteriosclerosis
    Recover-Me has a unique composition of amino acids that provides your body with the right fuel to;

  • promote blood flow in the body,
  • regulate blood pressure naturally,
  • recover faster after an illness or an operation,
  • It also has many anti-ageing properties.
Lower high bloodpressure
  • Dr Ignarro, Nobel Prize winner says: "The benefits of nitric oxide are numerous, especially for the cardiovascular system but it also affects other systems". Nitric oxide keeps your blood vessels healthy by increasing blood flow. What happens is that the nitric oxide ensures that all organs in the body receive the right amount of blood and therefore the nutrients and oxygen they need.

Cholesterol too high

When your cholesterol is too high, it is important to lower it. Ideally, we would like to lower cholesterol without throwing statins into the fray. After all, drugs always carry a risk of side effects.

How high can cholesterol be? That is different for the type of cholesterol. We distinguish between the bad type of cholesterol ; the LDL cholesterol and the good type of cholesterol; the HDL cholesterol.LDL cholesterol should be below 3mmol/l and HDL above 1mmol/l for men and above 1.2mmol/l for women.

Then there are the Triglycerides. These are other fats in the blood that can accelerate the process of arterial calcification and should therefore also be low. For triglycerides, a value higher than 1.7 mmol/l gives an increased risk of cardiovascular disease.

The total value of cholesterol should be no more than 5 mmol/l. Between 5 mmol/l and 6.5 mmol/l is mildly elevated, between 6.5mmol/l and 7.9mmol/l is elevated, above that is strongly elevated.
